The Ferry Building figures somewhat ominously along the Embarcadero. The building has the feeling as though there might be faeries (the small flying creature kind). However, the Ferry Building received its name for a reason, there are actually ferries (the boat kind) that connect San Francisco’s neighborhoods and the local bay communities
As Herb Caen, Columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle put it, “The waterfront without the Ferry Tower would be like a birthday cake without a candle.”
In addition to a plethora of local varieties of everything from cheese to oliver oil, there is also a regular walking tour of the Ferry Building. Tours are free and start at noon on Saturdays and Tuesdays. Tours coincide with the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.
