“The five” or sans article “five” is a horribly boring freeway cutting down the center of California. A common route for trucks and people trying to get from the Bay Area to LA (and back) the fastest way possible. For visitors the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) would be the freeway of choice. But us locals are not always granted the benefit of time in our race to the top of the American dream. San Francisco to LA takes 5 hours and 45 minutes driving (according to Google maps) if you take the Five. Taking 101 to 1 (PCH) would add on at least an hour (plus a few more depending on traffic). Flying would be about an hour, and then there is always the bus. Since you have already seen this picture, you can pass on it. Alternatively, you can enjoy the smell of Garlic through Gilroy and the stench of animal poop past slaughter houses. And do note that it is hot. Make sure your car has air conditioning.
